The former Sydney GPO is an imposing sandstone building at the corner of Sydney's main thoroughfare, George Street and the busy pedestrian route of Martin Place. The building has been retained, but added to with the high rise Westin Hotel. The two are linked by a sun-filled atrium.
One level above the vehicular and pedestrian traffic is the Mosaic Restaurant. Breakfast is served from 6.30 to 10.30 daily. There is the choice of a menu or buffet. The menu options start from around $20. For $42, you can have the full run of the buffet. Hot dishes include the regular choices including pork chipolata sausages and bacon, scrambled eggs and even Eggs Benedict. A chef is also present to prepare omelettes. Opposite is a selection of cold dishes, along with pastries, cereal and fruit.
Unless you are a light eater or not overly hungry, try the buffet. It might not be cheap, but it is value for money if you are going to have two or more servings.
An eggs dish from the menu did not come with toast, which cost extra. Service was okay, although one of the waiters had some difficulties understanding requests. On he positive side, the restaurant staff did allow our group of 7 to pay individually.
Take a moment or two to enjoy the architecture of the old GPO.
